What is VESA?
VESA refers to mounting-hole standards maintained by the Video Electronics Standards Association. A VESA pattern describes the distance between the mounting holes on the back of a display, written as horizontal × vertical measurements in millimetres, such as 100 × 100 mm or 200 × 200 mm.
For a display mount, arm, or bracket to fit, its mounting interface must match the display’s VESA pattern or explicitly support it through an appropriate mounting range or adapter.
Why does VESA matter when buying or comparing?
VESA is one of the key physical-fit checks when choosing a display mount. If the mount does not support the display’s hole spacing, it may not attach directly, even if the screen size appears suitable.

When does VESA matter, and when does it not?

What does VESA not tell you?
VESA describes mounting-hole spacing and, in some listings, the supported mounting range. It does not by itself tell you:
- Whether the mount supports the display’s weight
- Whether the mount supports the display’s size or shape
- How far the display can extend, tilt, swivel, or rotate
- The quality, strength, smoothness, or durability of the mount
- Whether the required screws, spacers, or adapters are included
- Whether the installation surface and hardware are suitable
A VESA specification or compatibility flag is not a quality rating. A product marked as supporting a particular VESA pattern only indicates a stated fit capability; it does not prove superior construction or performance.
What should you check on a product page or spec sheet?
Check the following details before buying:
- Your display’s VESA pattern: Measure the horizontal and vertical distance between the centres of the mounting holes, or use the display manufacturer’s specification.
- The mount’s supported pattern: Confirm that the listed minimum, maximum, or exact VESA specification covers your display’s pattern.
- Weight capacity: Make sure the display’s weight, including any relevant accessories, is within the mount’s stated limit.
- Screen-size guidance: Check the stated screen-size range, but do not use it as a substitute for matching VESA measurements.
- Mounting hardware: Confirm the supplied screw sizes, spacers, and any adapter requirements where listed.
- Installation surface: Check whether the mount is suitable for your wall, desk, or other mounting surface and follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
- Other fit limits: Review clearance, movement range, cable access, and orientation requirements if those features matter to your setup.
If the product page only shows a VESA capability flag or an incomplete range, the exact supported patterns, hardware, and installation requirements remain unknown until confirmed in the full specification or with the manufacturer.
