swivel

Swivel is the ability of a mount or mounted display to turn from side to side around a pivot. The listed swivel angle describes the movement range, but not how smoothly or securely it operates.

What “swivel” means

On a mounting product, swivel means the mounted equipment can turn from side to side around a pivot. This is usually horizontal movement, allowing a screen or other equipment to face a different viewing position without moving the entire base or wall attachment.

MountFit product data includes both a capability flag and angle specifications. “Swivelling: Yes” indicates that swivelling is listed as a feature. It does not rate the mount’s construction, smoothness, stability, or ease of adjustment.

How swivel angles are shown

Published MountFit products use several angle formats, including:

Swivel angle: 90°, 120°, 180°, or 360°
Swivel angle range: 0–90°, -90–90°, 0–180°, -60–60°, -45–45°, and 0–360°
Swivel angle: 0°, which indicates no swivel movement in that listed specification

A signed range such as -90–90° commonly presents movement on both sides of a central position. A range beginning at 0° may use a different catalog convention. The label alone does not always explain whether an angle is measured per side, as a total range, or relative to a specific mounting position, so check the product details before comparing figures.

Why it matters

Swivel can matter when a display needs to face more than one seating position, be turned toward a work area, or be moved aside for access. It matters less when the product will remain facing one fixed direction. In those cases, tilt may be the more relevant movement specification, if listed.

Swivel is separate from articulation. A product may have one or more moving joints, but the presence of a swivel label alone does not describe the number of joints or the complete movement pattern.

What the label does not tell you

A “Swivelling: Yes” flag does not establish:

The exact usable angle
Whether movement is available to one side or both
Whether the stated range is total or per direction
How much clearance is needed while turning
Whether the mount locks at an angle
How much load the swivel mechanism supports
How smooth, stiff, or stable the movement feels
Whether other adjustments, such as tilt, are included

The angle values shown in the catalog describe listed capability, not product quality or suitability for every installation.

What to check on a product page

When swivel movement is important, look for the exact swivel angle or swivel angle range, rather than relying only on “Swivelling: Yes.” Check how the range is expressed, whether the product page gives a central or starting position, and whether the stated movement applies to the complete product or a particular arm or joint.

Also review the product’s other compatibility and installation specifications. Swivel alone does not confirm that the mount fits a particular display, supports a particular load, or provides enough room to turn as intended.
