single-stud mount

A single-stud mount is designed to attach to one wall stud rather than spanning multiple studs. The label describes the mounting approach, not the mount’s overall strength or compatibility.

What “single-stud mount” means

A single-stud mount is a wall mount designed to attach to one structural wall stud. Unlike a mount that spans two or more studs, its mounting structure is intended for a narrower attachment area.

“Single-stud” describes how the mount attaches to the wall. It does not mean the mount uses only one screw or one attachment point; the required fasteners and attachment pattern depend on the product.

Why it matters on MountFit

The term is useful when a preferred mounting position does not line up with two conveniently spaced studs, or when the available wall area is narrow. It can also help distinguish a mount’s installation approach from its display-attachment standard, such as VESA mounting.

A single-stud label does not by itself establish that a mount will fit a particular display or wall. The product page still needs to provide the relevant compatibility information.

What the label does not tell you

“Single-stud mount” is a capability or design description, not a quality rating. It does not prove:

  • The mount supports a particular display size or weight
  • The mount fits every stud spacing or wall construction
  • The mount includes suitable hardware for every wall type
  • The mount has a particular range of tilt, swivel, or extension
  • The mount uses a specific VESA pattern
  • The mount is stronger or better than a multi-stud mount

Those details remain unknown unless they are stated separately in the product listing. Even a listed weight capacity should be read together with the manufacturer’s installation requirements and the wall type.

What to check on a product page

When a product is labeled a single-stud mount, look for the stated:

  • Supported display weight and size range
  • VESA pattern range
  • Stud or wall compatibility
  • Required fasteners and included hardware
  • Mounting-hole arrangement and any positioning limits
  • Movement features, such as tilt, swivel, or extension
  • Clearance and installation requirements

Nearby concepts include dual-stud mount, wall mount, VESA mount, and display weight capacity. These describe related parts of fit and installation, but none should be treated as interchangeable with single-stud mounting.
